I often ask prospective consulting clients, “What makes you different? Why would someone choose to work with you versus your competition?” Inevitably, I hear, “We have exceptional customer service.” I think, So what?” I mean, you are supposed to have exceptional customer service. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that answer, I’d be a rich man.
But what exactly is it that makes you extra-ordinary?

Your clients are not only looking, they are truly begging, for strategic partners who can help them get a “leg up” on their competition. So what is it about your company and you as a salesperson that makes you exceptional or “extra-ordinary?” Often times it is the little things we do that make a marketable difference.During your next sales meeting or if yours is a single-person company, look at ways you differentiate yourself. Now is the time to reinvent who you are. Clients are looking for truly creative methods to get their messages out to the masses—promotional marketing (notice I didn’t say promotional “products”) is one of the most creative means to inform potential and existing clients of your products and services.
